A Dragonkin, Tae-won has been working for various employers for literally a century or two, picking and choosing his jobs depending on a predetermined set of criteria. He's been given a reputation for being picky as a result, but the jobs he does end up taking are usually done without question and with remarkable efficiency (with one or two exceptions). He's still considered young by Dragonkin standards (his current appearance reflects his age equivalent), and hasn't gotten his wings yet (though that may come soon? I need to figure out a good point for it to happen tbh). Currently, he can shift his eye color to reflect his more inhuman aspects as well as grow claws and scales, as well as pyrokinesis. He also has enhanced strength, speed and durability due to his heritage - but can only partially shift. It will take at least another century or so before he can fully shift into an inhuman form.
We will be damned in Hell, burned to ashes
Prickly even on his best days, Tae-won generally doesn't have much love for most of humanity. Partially because of his inhuman status, partially because he's seen a lot of bad that humans have done over the last couple centuries. Really, for the most part he's just Done with humanity and would rather be left alone - if it weren't for the fact of some of his old comrades asking him to come back to the fight, and maybe a little bit because while he's seen some shit, he also knows that there is at least some good in the world.

Not that he'd admit that outright.

Despite the fact that he generally finds most of humanity irritating at best, he does still follow human law when he's among them, if only because he would rather not reveal his true nature right away. He understands the potential implications of revealing what he is to the masses, and prefers to be a bit of a loner as a result. He also hates manipulations, especially by magical means. The reason for this is because despite not being a true dragon, he knows that his scales, claws, and blood are considered magical commodities.

Despite what can be described as a bad attitude and distrust toward some (most) people, Tae-won actually isn't a terrible person, and has a surprising honorable streak to him. He chooses jobs that lean toward trying to restore the natural balance, and despite his aggressive nature during work, does have a sense of mercy and a bit of a soft spot for kids and animals both. He understands that sometimes fighting for the greater good isn't going to be easy, but he will do what he can to make things right. He's incredibly competitive, however, especially if he finds his opponent to be a worthy rival (see: his weird rivalmance with Nithal).

Once again outside of his work, he's mostly a loner, but has gained some people he considers to be comrades, maybe friends. Generally he does prefer non-humans due to his extended lifespan, feeling that alongside the fact that humans are generally ridiculous, he has a better chance of fully getting to know someone if they're of an inhuman nature. But because of this, if someone does pique his interest, he is an incredibly loyal friend to them and will do everything in his power to make sure they don't get hurt.
The time is now, there's nothing that you can do
World History:
  • Tae-won comes from a world where there has been ongoing underground wars between supernatural factions for centuries, sometimes brought to the mainstream public’s attention, sometimes not.
  • After the last major war that was spurred on by the factions themselves and not by human hands, there has been a mutual agreement between the groups to stay out of each others’ business and try to keep a balance, seeing that tipping the scales too far in one direction or the other has brought nothing but trouble.
  • Some of the descendants of those that had been involved in these wars are still active in mainstream society today, and are generally known to the public as “empowered individuals” - even though some of them are in fact some of those same individuals who had fought in the previous wars. (Tae-won himself is technically in this category.)
  • However, as of late and thanks to a conflict known as the Kresoveer Rebellion bringing Empowered Individuals back to the forefront, there has been a tip in the balance. This has emboldened some groups into action again after being dormant for years, and as a result, more people with abilities have been recruited in order to fight.
  • The main instigator of these recent conflicts has been the Black School, an underground (literally) mage college that unfortunately has been rotting from the inside, kidnapping and brainwashing potential students, killing other supernaturals to use their body parts as components, all in the name of “vanquishing the darkness”.
Character History:
  • Tae-won has been a part of these wars for over three hundred years, generally as a free agent mercenary, though he has a reputation of choosing jobs that fit his own personal criteria. Unlike most other Dragonkin, while he does value his privacy, he has not completely cut himself off from society (despite his grumbling that it would be for the best).
  • Most Dragonkin live in their own secluded areas away from humans due to multiple reasons, including not wanting to deal with humans being unnecessarily scared of them revealing their true forms and being literally hunted by those within the magical communities due to their inhuman nature. (Even if Dragonkin aren’t full dragons, their claws, fangs, and scales are still considered powerful magical components.)
  • Almost two hundred years prior to the present day, Tae-won had met with two phoenixes who were enforcers for the Council, a shadow group that was trying to set the balance straight. Intrigued by the brothers, he ended up becoming a rival of the older sibling, Nithal. The two would become notorious for fighting each other, to the point where they would go out of their ways to find reasons to fight.
  • During his time fighting alongside and against the two phoenixes (it wavered depending on how he felt about the Council’s particular reason for sending the two out on missions), he had also befriended an elder vampire that went by the name of Tarr (real name: Cha Ki-moon) - and the few times that all four of them were brought together under a common cause were considered to be some of the most fun times of Tae-won’s life (not that he’d really admit it to anyone but them).
  • Tae-won wouldn’t admit it to himself, but he also felt something more for Nithal, though he never wanted to admit it for fear of not only rejection, but also losing one of the few people that he felt he truly respected.
  • Unfortunately, he couldn’t spit it out before Nithal was tried and sealed away another century after they had all met due to his involvement in a raid that ended with the deaths of members of the Black School and some of his and Amadi’s (his brother) nestmates - trying to protect the latter from the former.
  • Fast-forward to the present day - Tae-won is still working some mercenary jobs on the side, when he’s informed of Nithal’s unsealing and assistance during the Kresoveer Rebellion. It’s not too long afterward that he finds out that NIthal had passed, and that he had accidentally merged his soul with that of a human pyrokinetic soldier’s in an attempt to save her life. At first, he was furious, especially when he had confronted her the first time after the merger had happened and felt Nithal’s presence inside her. It wasn’t until months later when Amadi had gathered allies to create a squadron that they would meet up again, alongside Ki-moon, his mage partner, and others in order to fight the recent surge of kidnappings and torture that the Black School was responsible for.
